New Programmes for Solusi University
Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) has accredited 3 new programmes, upgraded 4 to honours status and uplifted suspension of 1 programme for Solusi University. This is as contained in an email sent by the Acting CEO Dr. E. Garwe to Solusi University.
These are the new programs that have been approved by ZIMCHE:
- Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Nursing
- Bachelor of Education Honours Degree in Early Childhood Development
- Bachelor of Science Honours in Nutrition and Dietetics
Mrs. Lynette Zvandasara, Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences at Solusi expressed feelings of joy as she received information on the new programmes that have been accredited by ZIMCHE.
“I am so happy that our programmes have been approved. We have been eagerly waiting for this programme to be and now it has come. As a school, we promise to do the best we can and hope to uphold the standards of the Nurses profession in Zimbabwe and beyond the borders. Our philosophy and conceptual framework of the BACHELOR OF SCIENCE HONOURS DEGREE IN NURSING programme at Solusi University are in accordance with the basic beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church concerning education and health.
In this philosophy are God, Man, Society, Health, Nursing, Teaching/Learning, and Technical and Professional Nursing roles. Graduates from this programme are prepared to contribute to the Zimbabwe (and other countries within our region) health initiatives. We are going to be training nurses who will be compassionate, competent and ethical,” said Mrs. Zvandasara
Bachelor of Education Honours Degree in Early Childhood Education comes also as a new programme at Solusi.
“This is a new degree at Solusi that is aimed at equipping teachers in the teaching of ECD learners and also contribute to the national pool of the 17000 teachers required”, said Dr. P. Tsvara (then Dean, Faculty of Education).
Solusi University becomes the first University in Zimbabwe to introduce Bachelor of Science Honours in Nutrition and Dietetics. Dr. Namo Gwisai Head of Department, Food and Nutrition had this to say.
“We are going to be training Dietitians and Nutritionists for Zimbabwe and beyond the borders. These are professionals who will take care of the special diets in Hospitals, serve as Nutritionists and dieticians in schools, institutions, organizations and communities within the country and beyond.
We observed that there are a few Dietitians in the entire country and all the patients were eating the same kind of food in the hospitals. As we introduce this new programme, we believe that we will train many food specialists who will prepare specific meals for different conditions”, said Dr. Gwisai.
There are three programmes in the faculty of Business Administration that have been awarded an honors status and these are;
- Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) (Hons) Accounting
- BBA (Hons) Finance
- BBA (Hons) Marketing
While BBA Computer and Management Systems was formerly known by that name, it has now been rebranded to BSc (Hons) in Information Management Systems and has also been awarded an honors status and at the same time moved to the Faculty of Science and Technology.
In addition, an official communication lifting Suspension of the MSc. in Food Science and Nutrition has been received.
“Prospective students of the Degree MSc. Food Science and Nutrition may apply for August block release 2018”, said Pastor Amos Ndlovu (then Assistant Registrar for Admissions).
